Zhenya Gimer is a jazz pianist, clarinetist, improviser
and conductor who is especially interested in the American Golden Age of Jazz.
He is a charismatic showman and performs mostly in Helsinki, where he is often heard at Storyville Jazz Club, as well as in Stockholm, and New York, as a soloist or with his quartet.
Gimer is a versatile musician who enjoys listening to various music genres such as baroque music. He has performed with e.g. the jazz legend Dave Brubeck, Frank Foster Big Band, Ted Curson and Ritchie Cole.
Hannu Rantanen has vast experience playing both electric and double bass. He has played in numerous combos and has also worked in theatres as a theatre musician. His areas of expertise include pop, jazz, fusion jazz, folk music, latin, flamenco and tango.
Rantanen has played in the following bands, among others: UMO, Avanti, Septeto Son, Värttinä, Tango-orkesteri Unto, Jukka Linkola Tentet and Joonas Widenius Trio, as well as performed with several international stars such as Luis Di ‘Matteo, Wayne Krantz, Larry Coryell. Django Bates, John Adams, Anders Bercrantz, Ted Curson, Viktoria Tolstoy and Lorrie Morgan.
In recent years Rantanen has studied various forms of Argentinian tango and different ways of using double bass playing tango. He has worked with flamenco guitarist Joonas Widenius and performed flamenco and Spanish music.
Thomas Törnroos is a jazz, blues, soul & prog rock drummer and a percussion artist. He is a skillful allround musician and a studio drummer whose repertoire also includes gospel, fusion, and world music.
Törnroos has played on over 50 records and has performed in various combos including Heikki Sarmanto Trio, Jukka Gustavson Prognosis, Rob Dominis Trio, Wade Mikkola Quartet, Uffe Krokfors Band, Porvoo Classic Jazz Quartet and Porvoo Big Band.
Törnroos regularly produces Steamin’ Jazz Club nights in his home town Porvoo as well as Soul & Jazz Time Out nights in Loviisa, the total number of concerts reaching over 300.
Along the profession of a musician and a teacher he works as a visual artist and graphic designer and has held 22 exhibitions.
Thomas Törnroos has been given several awards such as Jazz Emma in 2005, Porvoo City Cultural Award in 2012, The Traditional Jazz Society of Finland scholarship in 2015 and Porvoo Art Society The Achievement of the Year Award in 2016.
